Categories

Organize your inventory into categories so customers can filter your catalog

Categories

Categories let you group items so customers can filter your catalog by type of gear. They also appear as a navigation sidebar in the public catalog and embed.

Adding a category

You do not need to create categories in advance. When you create or edit an item, type a new category name in the Category field and it is created automatically.

To assign an existing category, click the Category field and select from the list.

How categories appear in the catalog

Each category that has at least one public item appears in your catalog's sidebar filter. Customers can click a category to see only those items.

Subcategories

Subcategories add a second level to your categories, so customers can filter by a broad type and then a more specific one (for example, Lenses nested under Camera).

Subcategories are a Pro extension. Turn it on in Settings > Extensions by enabling Subcategories.

Once enabled, you organize subcategories by nesting in the Category Manager:

  1. Go to Inventory and click Categories to open the Category Manager.
  2. Drag a category onto another category to nest it as a subcategory of that parent.
  3. To flatten one again, drag it back out to the top level.

Items keep their normal category assignment - a nested category simply displays grouped under its parent in your catalog's filter. (You can also set a subcategory column when importing items from CSV.)

If you turn the Subcategories extension off, your catalog filter shows a single flat list of categories again. The nesting is hidden, not deleted, and reappears if you re-enable it.

  • Items - set an item's category when creating or editing
  • Extensions - enable the Subcategories extension and others
