Pricing Looks Different

Understanding how daily, weekly, and monthly rates appear in the catalog and on rentals

Pricing Looks Different

If pricing looks different from what you or a customer expected, here is how rates are displayed and applied in HotCrate.

How rates are set

Each item has a daily rate. If you have the Rate Tiers extension enabled, you can also set how many days a full week is billed as (for 7+ day rentals) and how many days a full month is billed as (for 28+ day rentals). Bundles have their own fixed price.

What customers see on the catalog

In the public catalog, each item card shows the starting price. If weekly or monthly tiers are configured, the card may show the lower rate as the starting point (for example, from $100/day at a weekly tier). The exact display depends on which tiers are configured.

Pricing is locked in when a rental is created

When a rental or inquiry is created, HotCrate records the pricing and rental terms in effect at that moment: the item rates, any weekly or monthly tier rates, and pickup/dropoff day handling. If you later change your rates, adjust the Rate Tiers settings, or turn the Rate Tiers or Pickup & Dropoff Days extension on or off, existing rentals keep the pricing they were created with. Only new rentals use your updated settings.

You can see the exact terms a rental was created with in its activity log: the first entry shows how many days the rental is billed for and whether tier pricing or pickup/dropoff handling applied.

The Rate Card shows all rates

If you have the Rate Card extension enabled, the Rate Card page (hotcrate.app/u/your-slug/rate-card) shows all your active public items with their starting daily rates. Whole-dollar amounts drop the cents (so $100/day, not $100.00/day). The Rate Card does not show availability.
